The mecca of golf, St. Andrews is home to the legendary Old Course, an icon amongst golfers. One of the original links courses, St. Andrews has played host to the British Open several times, enduring divots from names like Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and even Tiger Woods. Six centuries of moments and artifacts from the game, carefully maintained in their most original form possible, are on display at St. Andrew's British Golf Museum.

The University of St. Andrews is one of Britain's oldest and most eminent education institutions. Founded between 1410 and 1413, students arrive from 100 different countries, and graduates wear distinctive red gowns, a 400-year-old tradition. The ruins of the ancient St. Andrews Cathedral date from 1160 AD, and many of its stones were used to construct several of the town's most attractive buildings. St. Andrews Castle, built around 1200 AD, is also in ruins, but enough survives to spark interest, including well preserved siege tunnels. Both medieval and modern, St. Andrews is a welcoming and popular stop on the sea.
